OUR ROLEX HISTORY
The Hartgers Story
Hartgers is a fifth-generation family-run luxury jeweler and watch store. We provide the finest in Rolex timepieces, as well as GIA certified diamonds, designer and classic jewelry, and engagement ring and wedding band expertise. Both Hartgers and Rolex both have a century-long history in the industry, ours beginning with Herman Hartgers emigrating to the United States from Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1888 to pursue his career as a diamond setter. Similarly, Hans Wilsdorf founded Rolex in 1905 with the intention of manufacturing the most precise and durable watches in the world – a value that the brand has remained true to over the last century.
Mr. Hartgers established his presence in New York City by purchasing a booth at the New York Diamond Exchange in downtown Manhattan. He and his son, Martin Hartgers, bought and sold diamonds while building a loyal jewelry clientele. Many decades later, the Hartgers family relocated their business to a retail location in Northern New Jersey. This store, where are remain today, is where the Hartgers family began expanding their business into the fine Swiss watch industry.
